Dead Fish Smell

Hey guys. My tank now has a dead fish smell that is going along with my outbreak of diatoms that WILL NOT GO AWAY!!!! Is this normal with the diatom outbreak? And yes, I am using tapwater and yes I am working on getting a RO/DI Filter System so I can get rid of these ugly ugly diatoms.

Is your tank still in the ammonia cycle? If it is, its not uncommon for there to be a dead flesh smell when there is die off on the live rock

If it is fully cycled - I'd say something else is causing it, diatoms don't really have a 'smell'

Well. My last check I finally got a zero reading on my ammonia. Then my test today it went back to.25 for ammonia , the lowest possible reading i can get above zero. On a side note how reliable are the red sea test kits?

The Red Sea kits aren't bad. I'd trust it.
