so i just got home finally after being kept out all day... dont even ask....
anyway my metal halide wasnt on a timer because im still adjusting the corals to it and its now almost nine oclock... i turned the halide on at 830 so it has been nearly 13 hours of metal halide... alllll of my corals are closed completely except for my xenia which looks too good actually. some of my acro is turning white at the bottom and for the first time since ive had it the frogspawn is completely enclose in itself. i know theres nothing i can really do at this point but what do you think will happen to everything?

I think you will be fine. They probably aren't happy about the extra 4 hours of light but as long as everything else is in order they will get over it.

its not just four hours though... they should have had 6 today. so its more than doubled... im still hoping itll be fine because everything stil have some little pinch of life showing. but i also think they are just shocked because the lights were supposed to be off an hour ago so everything started going to sleep early and then the daylight light stayed on for an extra hour.

*also the yellow polyps look like theyve been burned as if you burnt down the sides of a flower with a candle hah. and the mushrooms have reduced from 3 inches to a few centimeters.*

Even with that I think they will pull thru. Just make sure everything is prestine and give them extra special care for the next couple weeks.

I really doubt that's your lights doing that...I guess it could be, but I've had big swings in lights on/off and have never had corals bleach or close up because of it. I'd check your water parameters.

my params have been perfect [ as in all zero with alk at 10 and calc at 460ppm as of yesterday] and i just upgraded to these lights... transitioning from 4.8 wpg to 17.8 wpg... also the ballast stopped working for two days and i only got the lighting back yesterday.
im thinking it was the light.

plus everything was thriving and opened very well this morning after the lights were on for a few hours.
so it went from glory to crud within a day.

So I think at least one acro isn't going to make it. The lights aren even on yet today and it has gone from a lighter colour covering about an inch of the bottom to white spanning from the bottom up about 3/4ths of the way. :( overnight :(

13 hrs of lighting will not do that to corals. MH over a 10g tank can heat it up quite a bit. What was your temp after 13 hrs of MH lights being on over the tank?

High temps can kill corals overnite.
