Coralline Growth

BigH55

I'm that guy
I would like to boost my coralline growth becaue I love the look of the purple rocks. Since ive set up my 110, ive got some growth, but not what soome people have after only a couple months. Started the tan Oct 2008, but was transfered all from my 75. Someone told me to top off with kalkwasser. Is this true?

I never noticed any difference in coralline and topping off with kalk.
Just keep the calcium, alk, and magnesium in the right ranges, run the tamp a tad bit cooler(76 to 78) and brush whats there with a hard bristled tooth brush and it'll spread and grow.

It'll help. But be carefull what you wish with coralline.I hate it ALMOST as bad as cyano.
If it would stay on the rocks and the back glass it wouldnt bother me.But I get tired of scraping the front glass with a razor blade every couple of days.

+1 yote....Ive also been trying to get my corroline to grow And its a slow go,i think im going to go with instant ocian salt for a while just because of the lower calcium, Ocianic just has to much cacium weather I do a water change or wait a month or half its still around 480-500. It seem to start doing a little better when the calcium drops around 480 and Ive been told It needs to be a little lower for it really take off and off coures theres being patiant....

Yote hit the nail on the head. There is no secret to coralline. Maintain ca around 400, alk around 10 and mag around 1300. The amount of lighting or type of lighting will have very little affect. It's all in the water chemistry. Keep nitrates low and phosphate undetectable and the coralline will grow.

I agree with you guys. I used to think that it grew better under low light, but since I have had my MH's in place my coralline growth has spiked quickly in my 75g. I scrape the glass in the tank everyday so I usually dont have an issue with it growing on the glass since I dont give it time to grow there. But the rock is covered with it.
