Cleaning Bio Filter?

I have an HOB filter that is a fuge/biofilter. It has LR rubble and chaeto. Frankly the chaeto looks healthy but grungy! Do I clean it? It has done an excellent job so far but like I said the chaeto is dirty!!!

You can shake the chaeto out in a bucket. It will get detritus building up on it if it doesn't move around much.

Mixing / flipping it around once or twice a week keeps mine clean.
