Clams

Go Big Or Go Home !
So i just picked up to clams. One is a purple o e and the other is a golden tear drop. Anyways will they be fine on the sand bed for a couple days until i can get some dlat pieces of rock to put under them so they can attach to?. I do t want to place them ip high yet couse all my rock is huge and if they attach then i can move them later. Right now i have 4x96w power compacs and 2 strip off 75 3w leds one on each side of my tank. And would it be best to just use oister shells for them to attach to? Or flat rock?

You can use flat rocks or oyster shells. Just put the rock or shell in the sand, bury it a little bit so that the clams are stable while sitting upright, and they should attach over time. Some clams do prefer to be placed on the rockwork though. What kind of clams did you get?

They'll be fine on the sand bed for a couple of days. But be aware that they can borrow their foot through the sand and attach to the bottom glass.

The crocea will want to be on the rocks in as much light as possible. Mine is about 6 inches from my AI Sol's cooking at 75% for 12 hours a day and it loves it, your best bet is to get a small piece of LR specifically for the clam, and if you need to move it around you can

The maxima should be okay in the sand, but I'd get a flat piece of rock or something for it to attach to just in case you want to move it.

Once the clams attach with their foot, it is VERY difficult to move them without damaging them to the point that it kills them

Ok sounds good. But i noticed under them they have a small piece off rock like if aomeone cut them off a rock. Will they still attach to another rock? ?? Also will it be ok to keep them both in the sand with a piece of rock inder so they can attach with out falling?

Ok so today before lights out i noticed white spots on my crocea clam. im not sure if its bleaching or what. i have not moved it up yet couse its in the sand bed with a rock under it for it to attach itself before i move it. should i just go ahead and try moving it with the small rock under it ???/ anyways im also not sure if the golden tear drop is ok. anyways i have pictures here of both so you guys can see and let me know what you think.

And heres the golden Tear drop See. how its out but the shell isnt really to open, im not sure if its on or not.

That clam really isn't looking too good. I'd get it moved up in your tank to give it the opportunity to gain more light. As suggested earlier, dump the PC lights in favor of T5.
However, I am still skeptical about your LED's and believe they may be suspect as well.

Went to check on the clam last bight and it attacht to the rock already. So i moved him up in tje tank hopefully this helps. As far as the golden tear drop goes how does it look? ? The oc lights will be swaped for more leds. Im getting the big square thing of leds i think its a 120wgood system im planing on getting 2 of them maybe 3. I just have ro wait a couple more weeks befor i can get them.

Do you have a link to the LED system? If its one of the black bricks, its probably a Chinese knock off, it may or may not be able to support clams

Do the LED's you are currently running have optics? 3 Watt LED's are the standard for the most part, but there are low price / low quality ones, and ones that have established track records in the hobby. Theoretically 150 3 watt LED's should be sufficient for a 6 foot tank (I have 72 over my 6 foot tank) but the fixture has to be designed properly to get the light into the tank, and the LED's need to be of the proper wave length

It would be a good idea from now on to not buy animals that require a high amount of light (like clams) until you actually have the lights. I know you keep saying you are going to buy better lighting in the future, but that doesn't help the clams you just bought that need light now. The maxima looks good, IMO.

The most important thing about the lights is to research them, VERY WELL. You really have not given much info on them, which causes me to be very leery of them.

Well the 2 strips i have now are by true Lumen, and the ones im looking to get are.
the square ones i see are called evolution leds. not sure on those yet.
