Brown on sand?

Just changed from crushed coral to sand. Sand is getting a brown crust on it is this algae? Should I do anything about it or let it run its course?

It's diatoms or cyno. Both come with a new tank and go away in time with normal water changes and good husbandry. Very annoying and ugly, but completely normal.

+1 Bobby, that is just diatoms on the sand...which is normal...it will go away in a few days.

Diatom outbreaks are normal, and as your tank matures, they'll become less and less frequent.
