Brain Favs

Got Fish?
I'm thinking about getting a brain coral. Does anyone have a favorite? I'm new to reefing, so it'll probably be best to get one that is easy to take care of...thanks.:twocents:

What sort of lighting and water flow do you have? You may try a Lobophyllia Brain Coral. (sometimes called an Open Brain Coral, or a Meat Coral). It is can be found in a variety of textures and colors, including nice reds and greens.

It is semi-aggressive and it will sting other corals with its sweeper tentacles during the night, so it will need plenty of space. It is easy to maintain if you have medium to high lighting combined with a medium water movement. It may also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements depending on how often you change your water.

Here is a picture of one:

+1 on the Lobo - I have a nice bright red one that has been easy to take care of, from day 1. You should definately have good lighting.

Thanks. I guess I'll go with an open brain. I have strong lighting and I'd say a medium water flow. I guess I'll also wear gloves! :)

Beautiful coral yote, thanks. I guess I'll do a little window-shopping on-line and head to my local fish shop.

Brains! I want brains! More brains! :bounce:

Sorry just could help myself.

Love your top photo Mike...I think that's what I'm going for....does it need special attention?

No it does not any special attention. I dont feed any of my corals. They get all they need from the lighting and water column. That brain coral is about 7 yrs old.
