4 days in

Ok, so it's four days in a I noticed some "stuff" on the power head and filter out spout. At first I thought it was air bubbles but it isn't it's kinda slimy feeling. Then tonight I noticed some diatom starting behind the rocks. It's not up front yet, that might be from the toppling towers I keep re-arranging :mrgreen:. that disturb the sand. I didn't think it would start growing this quickly but it's starting. I don't have my test kits yet. I ordered it the other day, so it should be in soon.

Is that what is probably growing on the power head (diatoms) or do they just grow on the sand? That's where I noticed it first a few days ago.

Diatoms can and will grow anywhere in the tank.Theres just no stopping them.

You'll start seeing all sorts of different types of algae. It's all part of starting up a new tank.

I had things hanging off my powerhead flowing through the air as well. That started up pretty quick. Not sure what they are though.
