It seems like a pretty good mix. It dissolves fast. I used to use instant ocean and it would take a bit of salt to get the salinity right. I poured in just a little and it overshot the target salinity by a lot! The tank seems to be fine.
Update: Saw two juvenile dragon wrasses. That's the first time I've ever seen them also. I even saw a small snowflake eel in the middle of nowhere. He was just chillin' in the sand all happy. Hahaha. I really need to get an underwater camera!
I had a clown and damsel before. I added the clown second and he showed the damsel who was boss! I'd be sure to find a large clown and make sure it's up to snuff.
I have a 20 gallon tank and it has been a great learning experience. I quickly realized that letting your tank mature is very important. A lot of the times my tank was fine and I rushed things, which equaled fish death or algae growth. Some times when your tank is doing well means you shouldn't...
Yep! You got to know what your doing at all times here on Oahu! I'm planning on picking up an aquarium license once I upgrade my tank. The barrier net is legal to use right?
Glad you posted this for future reference. How do you go about filing reports on those who don't follow regulations?
Update: Saw a 2-3 ft Ulua (Giant Trevally) today. It was weird because he was only in about 5 ft of water and all alone. He looked lost and confused haha. This reminds me that I need to get a 3-prong spear and snorkel for dinner some times!
The bacteria in your tank needs time to establish itself. I'm afraid that you might be moving way too fast. Your ammonia and nitrite should spike and then fall back to normal levels, indicating a completed cycle. Your test kits will show safe readings because your cycle has barely started yet...
Yeah, but you have to realize that if corals were not illegal then I'm pretty sure the reefs would be completely barren in a matter of months. I got these at a LFS on Oahu. They were tank grown by some reefer I believe.
Your base rock should seed with the bacteria needed for any saltwater aquarium in time. Any amount of live rock should help. I would get at least one nice piece.
Hahaha. Yeah, there are a lot of interesting and exciting things in the ocean. I usually either set a goal for each snorkel outing or expect nothing at all. I really try to focus on obtaining things that are plentiful and do well in aquarium life.
