Hi everyone its been a while....had to put my sump project on hold. I'm thinking of getting a sock-it unit from BRS with a 1" inlet. I'm gonna connect a 1" flexible pvc to the inlet. What do I use to hold the pvc tight into place so it doesn't slip off and flood my carpet? A hose clamp? what...
I'm building a 6 .5 gallon glass sump for my small cabinet. Is it true that I need some type of rim on the top and bottom for structural support? Or am I OK going rimless?
What's the difference between 100 and 200 micron when talking about filter socks? What do you guys think about this pump for my return (Hydor Seltz L40 -740gph $46.69)? It has a built in flow control. I plan on getting a Lifereef nano prefilter overflow box.
I was told by the glass shop that I would need like that black trim you see on some aquariums becuase the silicone itself isn't strong enough to hold together the glass with all the water pressure. He said the sump would eventually break apart
After several days of research and looking at sump designs, I finally found one that meets my size requirements perfectly on youtube. What do you all think? I've decided to not use the plastic bin since I can build a bigger sump with tempered glass that holds about 7.5 gal of water vs the bin...
What kind of pump would you guys recommend for my return as far as gph? I'm looking at getting the lifereef prefilter/overflow box. It recommends 900gph but do I really need something with that much gph for my 44 gal?
Do you have a pic or your skimmer so I have a better idea of what you mean? How would you set up the eggcrate? Where would you put the chemical media (carbon, etc...)so there's no "passive" filtration?
I have a 125 watt Eheim Jager thermostat heater with thermo shutoff. Do you think I need a reef keeper lite to shut down the power to the heater in case it breaks?
OK guys.....What do you think about my layout so far? This is the best I could do as far as size for a sump 15"x11.5"x11 3/4" (6 gallons). fits almost perfectly...just have to cut off the handles of the plastic bin. I will put two baffles in the middle for a bubble trap. The plastic soap holders...
What can I use to "waterproof" the inside of my wood cabinet in case of water spills? It's starting to warp from previous spills and I should have taken care of it beforehand.
Maybe something that isn't stinky since we're in the middle of winter and I can't open the window in 5 degree weather.
