I would mix the water in a different container and when you get the tank get the sand and rocks at the same time. the reason is you want to put the rocks in the tank before anything else. have the rocks sit on the glass not the sand. when you get home add the rocks and do your aquascaoing making...

That is too small of a tank for your yellow. I have a purple and yellow on my 120 and the yellow is after the purple for the first 2 days but I then placed a Mirror at one end of the tank and it stop. they both are now buddies. But I would not recomend it though.

there's no need to feed the corals but if you want the candy cane to grow faster you can target feed it with mysis shrimp. I did it on mine and trippled the size in two months.

I am 100% sure that the algae is due to using tap water. do 25-30% water changes using RODI water once a week for the next month and you should start to see them go away. and for that powdery thing your talking about which I believe is chemiclean, It won't work as long as you continue to use tap...

with the sand bed, it really depends on how thick you want it to be. I have 4 inches behind the rockwork and anywhere from an inch to 2 inches in the front but I have a plenum on my fuge which is about 6 inches.
