    Zoanthus sp.

flame angels generally don't go for zoa - they tend to like sps polyps and gorgonian and lps. having said that there are no guarantees with fish so you would hate to come home to have him chew up some rare zoa frag you just got. I have one for over a year - only had him chew up a photo-syn...

    Arc Eye Hawkfish...such a jerk

I think you are out of luck as far as shrimps and crabs. That is their natural diet so its not much of a surprise really. I haven't heard of them taking out snails though. Your snail may be the handiwork of the hermits. A larger conch may be OK.

    New Corals, Acros First attempt.

+1 Mitch your blue man looks like a tenuis and the blue tip - looks like a lovelli or cervicornis. i'm definitely not the expert. If you are getting into acro's more - you should get a magnetic frag rack. When you get new acquisitions you can put them on the frag rack and put the frag rack...

"Easy" corals dying, difficult corals thriving

can you post some pics and your water params (cal / alk / mag / salinity) sound like it may be different issues. are your montiporas losing tissue (i.e. you see patches of white) - if so may be nudibranches plate corals - may be a flow/lighting issue - try moving it to a different spot in...

    New Corals, Acros First attempt.

the red planet will encrust around the base - you should think about either popping it off the plug or cutting the plug stem off and mounting it where it can continue to encrust (preferably over your rockwork). it will probably encrust over the plug in 2-3 months. I find it to be a bit of a...

    upgrading to 130

    1. what filter system should I buy for this tank? - 130g you really should have a sump with a filter sock, skimmer refugium setup. 2. and what led lighting is the best? - depends a bit on what kind of livestock you have - if you have corals that need a lot of light (sps), anemones...

    aquarium vacuums??

I made this contraption where I used a maxijet 400 in powerhead mode stuck to the side of the tank about 1/2 way.with tubing on both ends, The output end I put the tubing into a old salt bucket into a mounted filter sock. I used the suction end to vacuum the bottom. Every so often I would...

    Goofed WC?

most 2 part systems i'm familiar with you don't add the 2 parts together. The calcium part (usually A) will react with the carbonate part and precipitate out in the tank.

    Matt and Jacq's 120 Gallon

+1 on the RO/DI unit. The stick in your tank badge for Ammonia is not a bad idea. The ph one is only for freshwater I believe. Maybe after the RO/DI unit - get an auto-topoff unit to automatically refill you tank.

Marineland Reef LEDs Vs. Finnex FugeRay Aquarium LED Light Plus Moonlights

20" is not real deep so you can probably get away with something 40W or more (although its a deeper small tank - I was thinking about your 55g tank). Shoot for something in the 10K-15K spectrum. With a 24" width - shoot for something with a wide-angle lens - you can use 1 unit. You may even be...

Marineland Reef LEDs Vs. Finnex FugeRay Aquarium LED Light Plus Moonlights

Its a combination of intensity and the spectrum. Again it all goes back to what type of tank you want to run. For example, the marineland unit would be perfectly fine for someone running a NPS (non-photo-synthetic) tank where the corals are already very brightly coloured and don't require...
