    Brown jelly disease....Help!!!!

You can leave the dead skeleton as long as you are sure you have addressed all the brown jelly issue. Having a dead polyp might be unsightly, but it is better than risking further injury to the coral by attempting to cut it away while it is still recovering.

    Rockstacker's 50 gallon Frag Tank

Alas, I had shut down this frag tank. Trying to maintain a 100gal display tank and a 50 gallon frag tank is becoming too tedious - and expensive. Maybe in the future I can build a smaller frag tank (20-30 gallon frag dimensions). For now I am cleaning out this tank and will probably use it as...

    Rods fish food?

Try this store locator. http://www.rodsfood.com/locator.html A lot of big online fish stores also carry it. But shipping frozen food can cost a bundle unless you buy enough to qualify for discounted/free shipping.

What type of shark is it ?

I guess it depends on who you ask. In the UK fishing industry, it is considered a pest species and hundreds get tangled up in fishing nets on a regular basis. They end up getting chopped up as bait.

What type of shark is it ?

I am leaning towards a spotted cat shark http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small-spotted_catshark Epaulette sharks have the distinct "shoulder pads" hence the epaulette name.

    Feather Duster Jumping Ship

Feather dusters can be very jumpy when new to a tank. Moving them around a lot will just make them more scared. I say leave them alone where they are right now until they are fully comfortable with their surroundings.

    Hungry for knowledge

What are the other parameters? pH Alkalinity Magnesium Calcium is just one of the key parameters if you intend to keep corals. And it must be in proper proportion to Alkalinity and Magnesium. If any one of these parameters are outside of the normal range then it messes up the water chemistry...

help ID this beautiful wrasse, please!

It looks like an Australian Rainbow Wrasse (one of many color variations). They are known to nip at corals every now and then. They are also more notorious for carpet surfing. So an aquarium lid is a must.

    Return Pump/ question

Hello, and welcome to the forums! Here is a link to a previous discussion on how to plan for tank overflow/sump volume to prevent flooding. https://www.livingreefs.com/threads/flood-proof-tank-sump.48414/#post-644553 Regarding the return pump, although the return and overflows produce some...

    Rockstacker's 120g Build

FTS Nothing much has changed with the aquascaping. The new frags are barely noticeable :) Left side The green-skin toadstool is growing up to be quite a monster. It also had one sproutling growing from the base that I have since cut off and growing on its own under the mother coral. Middle...

    29 Biocube LPS and Softies!

Looks great! I like the location of the overflows in the corners. Double-check the center brace. It looks like a DIY glass center brace, or maybe it just looks that way from the picture. When I got my 100gallon tank it had a DIY glass center brace and it gave out. Since the tank was already...

    Flood-proof Tank/Sump

This is to simulate the worst case "power down" scenario where the return pump is off and the water from the main tank drains as much as it can into the sump. If you have a sump big enough, it is possible to have the display tank drain all the way down to the overflow level and not fill up the...

    Flow Rate Ok? HELP PLEASE!!

It would probably work better if you add under-over baffles after the skimmer. This will create more turbulence in the skimmer section and allow more contact time with the "dirty" water and the skimmer intake. Otherwise, you risk a portion the dirty water just bypassing the entire skimmer as it...

Red Sea Reef Foundation Test Kit - Old and New Kits have different readings

The Calcium Reagent B is confirmed bad, so Red Sea will be sending me a replacement. So that addresses that issue. I got a response from Red Sea regarding the alkalinity and magnesium tests. They recommended the following: 1. Mix a small batch of new saltwater to 1.025-1.026 specific gravity...

Red Sea Reef Foundation Test Kit - Old and New Kits have different readings

I compared all the volumes of the different syringes on the two kits. They all match up. 1ml on one is 1ml on the others, 2ml = 2ml, etc. I think you may have a defective syringe or a mismarked one in your kit.

    Flood-proof Tank/Sump

How to prevent the main tank from flooding: Make sure the overflow is not overwhelmed by the return flow. This means getting an overflow system that is rated higher than the return pump. Also make sure your overflow system does not get clogged. Better yet, have redundancies for your overflow -...
