    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

No that's great. That was my initial purpose of doing a bi weekly w/c instead of weekly due to low nutrients. I mean what's the point of changing water when my Nitrates are like basically 0 and the w/c is doing nothing for my trace elements. I'm glad you said that it just made my thoughts more...

    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

No micro algae. But my protein skimmer is running 24/7 and it's a wet skim. . That's one thing I may do is decrease the amount of time my skimmer is running. I have a very light bio load with only two fish. That's a big dose Mario but I can totally see that in a larger tank. Now that I got he...

    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

Thanks for the tip marinne. But, I've been closely monitoring my pH and it had remained 8.0-8.2 so I have gotten lucky. Soda ash huh? Good to know. Ty .I know the brightwells magnesium I'm using raises 1 gallon by 26 ppm per 1 ml added. As for the bionic I'm not 100% sure. I don't have the...

    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

Ahhhh I Gotcha now Marinne. My bad. Yes your right. I was thinking everyday would be better as well. I feed my fish everyday anyways so it's not like it would be a hassle. Plus I'm assuming it would be a rather small dose everyday since it's only a 20 gallon. Maybe 4-6ml I'm guessing. Or hoping...

    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

Why would it lower it drastically if im dosing everyday? If I do a water change with my numbers right where I want them to be due to dosing everyday wouldn't it be the same as if I did a wc every week? I'd still only be doing a 10% wc be weekly. Also no I didn't look into bulk reef supply...

    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

I decided after my last post I wanted to raise my levels with the advice of a fellow reefer and a lot of reading. So after a week of slowly dosing calcium, alkalinity and magnesium, my levels are now right where I want them. Calcium:420 alkalinity : 8 and magnesium :1400. Now I just need to see...

    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

OK.... I now am confident that I have the salifert testing kits mastered. I'm getting multiple readings exactly the same. Now, my question is, has anyone ever had salt go bad? Not necessarily go bad but is it possible after time for it to lose its trace elements as time goes on? The reason for...

    Coral help!

I agree Kyle. Can't speak for all salt mixes. Also I've only got a 20 gallon tank. So maybe larger tanks that require more salt to be added to their water changes also may be different.

    Coral help!

If anyone is interested. I used reef crystals and mixed to a salinity of 1.026 last night around 9pm. Then put a powerhead in agitation the water surface and swirling the water to mix it up. After 15 mins I got a pH reading of 8.2. I then left it over night and around 11 today, 14 hrs later I...

    Dosing magnesium? Calcium?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjDCU4xhioQ Came across this video. I noticed he achieved the blue colour and kept adding more to get it more blue? Is this normal? I normally stop as soon as I see the blue. Am I doing this wrong. Just trying to get the best accuracy out of these tests.

    Coral help!

I have always mixed and added my new water the same day with no real issues. Of course there is usually a 1 to 4 hr period in between from the time I mix it to the time I put it into my tank. Tomorrow is my water change day I'm going to monitor my pH this time just to be safe. With a powerhead...

    Coral help!

OK cool. . Wasn't sure if there was something I was missing I always make sure there's no traces of salt grains before I add. Maybe I'll do a test this weekend after 1 hr of mixing and then after 24 hrs of mixing. Things like pH calcium, magnesium and alkalinity. Just to see if there is any...
