I would install two bulkheads and cap them. If you ever decide to do something different like add a sump the bulkheads will already be in place.

Just because the sun coral hasn't opened yet does not make it dead. It takes time for some corals to acclimate.

Yeah get those pics posted so we can help you out. The sun coral isn't photosynthetic and will do well in shaded areas. You will also need to spot feed this coral. It's really not that difficult of a coral if you can find a good place in the tank that doesn't get blasted with light.

I think your ID is accurate. It is a filter feeder. I ran into the same problem of no information out there several years ago when I had one hitchhike in. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Do you have the same lighting? It is easy to explain your BTA splitting since you just made a move with them. You can fart to loud and a BTA may split. Now the harder part. The coral and rose BTA may be further or closer to the light causing the spectrum to be a little different which can...

What other livestock do you have in there? Just trying to figure out if it might be battle scars. You might want to also make sure it is not cirolanid isopods. When the lights are out shine a red light in there on the fish and make sure nothing is attached. I really hope it isn't those.

Steve, I don't use dosing pumps but you know as well as I do that slow changes are advantageous. If I was setting it up I would break it up versus all at once. The depletion is happening over a 24 hour period so putting it back over time instead of instantly seems like a logical plan.

Looks like mushrooms to me. You sometimes get hitchhikers on your live rock some are good and some are bad. Yours appear to be good.
