If you didnt get what was ordered, I'd suggest talking to John. He is absolutely a stand up guy. I made the mistake of ordering from one of his competitors once - never again

    MH to LED Acclimation Ideas?

The new AI controller has an accilmation mode, you set the first intensity and your final intensity and then how long you want it to take to get there. So, you could start at 25% on all the channels, and end at 100%, and give it 30 days. It will auto adjust the intensity so that after 30 days...

    Dosing with Tom's Aqualifter

Before automating two part, have to started adding Kalk to your top off water? You can add up to two teaspoons per gallon. If that does not solve your Alk / cal issues, you should then look at dosing two part in addition. Shipping from BRS may cost you, but in the long run, purchasing the...

    300 gallon stocking list

While I agree that a sohal and an Achilles may fight, they should be the last fish added. An Achilles will likely not take kindly to ANYTHING added to the tank after he is. That may also be true for some of the triggers as well. I'm also going to agree that even in a standard 300, you...

    Long time issues...

That looks like Dino's to me. I had them at the 6 month mark in my 180, and getting rid of them almost got me out of the hobby. You'll need to do water changes, almost as often as you can make the water. You'll want to suck out as much of the dinos as you can every day. It sucks, it...

    protein skimer help

The skimmer pump isn't going to be strong enough to draw water from the tank, down to the stand, and then push it back up to the tank again. If you aren't running a sump, the only real option you have for running a skimmer is a HOB type

How long will it take for live sand to clear?

It could easily take several days. I used the tiny grain stuff in my 180, and it took almost a week for the water to fully clear. Does this setup have a sump? If it does, running a filter sock will help pull some of it out, but you'll need to rinse it very regularly

what types of butterfly fish can fit in my tank

Google is your friend Saltwater Aquarium Fish for Marine Aquariums: Orange Butterflyfish Though it looks like they have changed the tank size requirements for it

    Slate tile reef safe

I'm going to disagree here. Slate is not normally found in marine environments, and my guess is something like a floor tile could have chemicals or elements that could leech into the water, either your's or your customers. I wouldn't want to be the one selling frags that could leech toxic...

what types of butterfly fish can fit in my tank

Almost every butterfly I am aware of besides the Kleinni requires at least a 125 gallon tank. Many of them are very difficult to get feeding, and they will munch on any coral or other sessile invert

what types of butterfly fish can fit in my tank

Copperbands almost always starve in captive tanks. They are very hard to get feeding, and do not do well with other active fish in the tank. Even if one was going to attempt one, they need a large, 6 foot tank. Leave them in the ocean The smallest butterfly I know of is the Kleini's...

    Bangaii Cardinal Pair Bonded?

In a tank your size if there was going to be aggression, I think you would have seen it by now. I am sure that both of the cardinals are aware of the other ones presence. I wouldn't be too worried about it and just give it some time

    How do you dip corals?

Choose your dip of choice (there are several coral dips available). Get yourself a 1 quart bucket. On the coral dip you'll have the mixing instructions that tell you how to mix up the solution. For example, my dip (Two Little Fishies) says to mix one capful of solution with one gallon of...

    flower pot corals

Try dimming your lights and then slowly over the course of several days / weeks ramping them back up. Kessil's are pretty strong lights, and the coral could be in shock from a large increase in available light

    New stocking list

I think those tangs will be fine together. I've had a Naso for quite some time (sadly, I lost it last night). It was the most laid back fish in the tank. I would definitely add it before the Hippo. Two large fish at once may cause water quality issues, so I personally would not add them at...

    aquarium lighting

First, 6500K is going to grow a lot more algae than anything else Second, shop lights and lights for grow coral are two totally different things. The ballasts may well be similar or even the same, but you're not going to have any real reflectors to get the light where it needs to be Sure...

Help me understand LED light vs Gallons

For a tank that size, I would look into the Kessil units or Par38's 'Watts per gallon' is a very ineffective way of measuring things, all lighting is not created equal Take a look at this sticky https://www.livingreefs.com/lighting-101-a-t41427.html

    Need HELP!! Emergency!!

I am sorry to hear about your losses, but I am not surprised that trouble started with the Potters. Very few of them make it long term in captivity, and those that do are housed in large tanks. I don't see a 55 being a suitable home for one long term. I had mine for a little over two years...

    Purple Tilefish

All i see in those photos is the lower pelvic fin, and it just looks torn. If its eating and its not stressed, I don't see why it wouldn't recover from that (at least based on what I can see from the photo)
