    My first tank - 60g

Man it has been a long time since I've been on here! I have missed you all. My pooooor tank, has been so neglected the busier I get :( However, today, I ripped out the baffle of my refugium and have decided to upgrade to a nice big skimmer and get a dosing pump setup! Thinking of buying...

    First Fish... need little advise

You seem to have some good information to start with, which is great! About time we had someone come and ask smart questions after doing their research! I applaud you :) But BL1 is right, generally though, we will avoid pellets because they pollute the water and can negatively impact our tank.

The Ultimate Guide: Cycling a Tank, Adding Fish and Corals

You NEED Live rock, live sand, salt water, powerhead, heater in order to cycle. The skimmer is better to run while cycling because it will run it in and lights are optional but it is best to get everything in the tank running together correctly from the beginning. Refugium is an area where you...

    Anemones sitting together?

They look like they are the same type, so it should be fine. Mine split and eventually the new one came back and shared the cave. I wouldnt worry, he will move if he is uncomfortable.

    Worried for my tank :(

I didnt check it, it was my guess with how much water was lost. But the shrimp is still alive this morning along with all the inverts, so I think everything is all good. Started my dosing again, so lets get that to bring down the trates and get this tank healthy :)

    Worried for my tank :(

I did top the water up, and ive got my heater going again. So those two things should be setting themselves right. Ive re setup my sump, so now everything is running right again. Should see my temperature at 25 tomorrow and salinity should be balancing out. didnt think of bringing salinity...

    Worried for my tank :(

Good idea Wonton, the new tank im planning will have an ATO and I wont have to worry, im not going anywhere for a number of months though, so it should be ok for now! At least the nem didnt nuke the tank, that worried me. salinity would have been double with the loss of 50 litres of fresh water

Good or Bad anemone or is it a anemone at all?

+1 on the ric, that was my first thought. The green dot in the centre, the texture and the shape.

    refugium

The refugum can be used as a form of filtration. Having macro algae is good for the tank as they eat bad items like nitrates and so forth. A refugum also lets you house a skimmer or even some extra live rock for biological filtration. However, I would not recommend it as the only form of...

    Ignorant First Time Reef Aquarist

Go north, good advice so far ;) I will also say, the drip filter is useless for reef tanks. Thats what your talking about for your bacteria. Live rocks will house your bacteria in the tank to break down ammonia into nitrates. The skimmer however is the best way of removing unwanted bad...

    Worried for my tank :(

Worked out another thing, my temp is at 20 degrees. Lucky I have a ceramic heater that turned itself off when the water level dropped too low... Or we could have had fire while I was away. I asked my uncle, once a week to fill it up, and he didnt. so disappointing. Im amazed everything isnt dead!
