+1 Little Fish, I would also recommend a smaller sand bed, 1-2 inches. 4 inches may get you nitrate bubbles and at that depth it does not do enough for bacteria levels and denitrification. I had a 4 inch sand bed and soon got rid of it!

Now you have to learn how to dose. When you add in new sps it will drain calcium, alkalinity, magnesium and other elements. It comes down to you to find out how much they use in a 24 hour period and dose that daily to keep all parameters stable. That is the key with SPS . It may be worth it to...

Always do research before getting to a hobby, especially one that is as delicate as reef tanks! so the most imprtant thing to remember is that you will have to do weekly water changes to keep the water healthy. A skimmer is very useful and as a starting tank, I would suggest getting a 55g tank...

Because I mentioned that you use live rock to cycle your tank. If you buy live rock and leave it out for even 5 minutes, there is die off in the tank. So this going into your tank will create the nitrate spike. the shrimp method is another excellent way of doing it however :) I do not condone...

Ahh that sounds nasty! when you add 2000 on the end of something it always feels so high tech...

+ 1 everyone! You will see changes, but much later, like 6 months. Purple growth will appear if your tank is healthy and dont have an urchin who likes corraline ;) but yes, live means bacteria, works and other living creatures are surviving in the rock in order to work for your tank not...
