I would suggest getting your water quality 100% then siphoning the detrious off the sand. The new sand will get dirty again if you don't look after the tank first.

Congratulations on tank shopping.
And thank god there is someone starting that is ACTUALLY researching. I prefer answering this question then. "Can I have 4 tangs in my 30g" :death: :grumble:
Either way, the best things you could do is
1. Post the conditions of your tank (all numbers)
2. Make sure he is eating
3. Do small water changes to keep the water clean
4. Do not harrass or touch him if it can be helped. Reduce the stress.
You just don't like SPS because it is hard work :P
I love sps personally. if you get ones with the right colors they are nice. But they are incredibly hard to look after.
To be honest, I don't believe that will kill all the bad bacteria. you are basically just storing it and not feeding the bacteria with light or macronutrients.
Best option is to kill everything on the rock completely. Get one good clean live rock and seed the old rock you killed off.
^^^ +1 LF and CV
The best thing to do would be to get all dry rock and one or two pieces of live rock. If you don't want to wait and want the safest option. This is it.
Also, I wrote this a looooong time ago in the new to reefing section...
Basically, take them out of the tank and let them completely dry out. Then rinse them off with water. IMO. That is how I have always done it. you basically kill everything on the rock. I think some people have put it in the oven :P HAHA
Try to never have pests. So do this now while you are at...
O.o True reefer would sleep with the fishes.
Soooon, trying to find my house to buy, then I can get it :D I am settling back on a 6ft now. Knew this would be trouble. . . .
haha, other than, where the hell do I put an 8ft XD
+ my skimmer can handle 650-700 litres with an extremely heavy stock of sps and fish. Won't handle a 8ft tank. The skimmer was 1500 bucks lol AUSD
Haha you would like to see that :P
Ok ok ok ok ok ok . . . My brother is the worst influence. He is convining me to buy a 6ft. And doing a bloody good job of it XD
I would be most likely to setup it up the way I want it, or find an all in one that does what I want. I want to do little work, just weekly water changes and thats it. So 30gallon could work. No fish and lots of inverts and corals :D
