    Also test strips aren't accurate. You should get the liquid kinds instead. Although the liquid ones are more expensive, they are MUCH more accurate.

    How big are your water changes? And if you really want to use plants for nitrates reduction, mangroves would probably be the worst bet, as they grow very slow. The best plants would be chaeto or caulerpa in my opinion.

    Do not get crushed coral. It makes maintenance much harder. Trash and junk will get stuck in there, making it become a nitrate factory. Don't get live sand because it's a waste of money. Who knows how long it's been in a bag? IMO the best bet is to get a bag of regular dry sand. It will...
