    White dots

Definitely hydroids but they don't always go away on their own. This is one of three life stages they go through. Later stages can be seen as colonial hydroids (bad) or these long white tentacle things growing off your rock (not sure of name but not that bad). The best thing you can do is...

    unknown critter

Basically a little snail without a shell. Do a google image search and you'll see the nearly limitless different species out there.

    unknown critter

It is really hard to say, but it looks like some sort of nudibranch to me.

Anyone still make custom glass aquariums?

Anyone have any experience with Coast to Coast aquariums out of New Jersey?

Thanks a ton, I've emailed them.

Anyone still make custom glass aquariums?

So far every local aquarium installer company I've talked to has said the same thing, "No one really works with glass anymore." One company actually referred me to glasscages. Two of the four fish stores I frequent have all said they only work with acrylic for custom tanks though I still have...

    Lidless tank

Definitely want to go without a hood on rimless tanks...a hood totally defeats the purpose!

Anyone still make custom glass aquariums?

Yeah, I've read a couple of horror stories as well. I've heard nothing but good things about Reef Savvy but I'm reluctant to spend a significant amount of money without being able to get at least a couple of competitive quotes. I'm in Chicago. Are you in CA? Does your buddy ship? Miracles...

Anyone still make custom glass aquariums?

So I've been trying to find companies that still make custom glass aquariums. So far I've only found three: 1. Reef Savvy 2. Glass Cages 3. Miracle Aquariums (Canada) I've sent requests for quotes to these companies and a bunch of others but nearly everyone only works with Acrylic. Reef...

    Protein skimmer???

Unless you are going with a truly epic (like 36" tall or bigger) skimmer it seems like in-sump is the way the go. At the very least there are more to choose from and in general competition makes for better products.

    Planning the upgrade

Hmm, I've built my current aquascape pretty sturdy just through stacking but a bump in the right place does case a bit of a shake. I planning to go somewhat minimalist in the rockwork so I'm not sure they'll be enough to do it just via stacking. I'll be sure to play around though. Thanks!

    Planning the upgrade

Did you use the marco cement to glue them together or some other epoxy? I'm planning on mocking everything up and since the tank is rimless if it fits on the cardboard tank it'll fit in the tank.

    Planning the upgrade

I finally got approval from the boss to upgrade the tank. I think I am going to go with a custom rimless 36Lx24Wx20T hopefully with an external overflow. I'm not planning on actually taking delivery of the tank until December so I have quite a bit of time for planning and preparation. My...

    rbta problems

The troops are gonna ask for a full list of tank parameters so I'd suggest posting them ;) As a owner of a small tank like that myself I would guess it is a water quality issue (especially with a 6 month old tank). I have about 2 quarts of evaporation daily and with the tank being so little...

    tanked

I'm gonna give it another shot, but yeah I was quite disappointed as well. I guess its about what you would expect from these reality shows.

    cloudy water- grainny

And actually, I don't believe you want to be running an airline diffuser in a saltwater tank but I'll someone else chime in on the why.

    cloudy water- grainny

I'd definitely recommend a protein skimmer, its one of the most effective forms of filtration available today. Though there is a good thread on here about an algae scrubber which is a most lower cost and very effective filtration choice (but requires a sump).

    Demonic Fish from Hell

I had to remove all the rock from my tank in order to catch the blue devil plaguing my tank.

Should I add something to raise my alkalinity?

I've been going through a similar situation with low alkalinity despite regular water changes. To answer your question, yes I would add something to increase your alkalinity to a more in-balance level. However I would first read this article to better understand the relationship between Calcium...
