    Aarons 150g

Nice!!! It's so nice to see some real colonies and not just frags. Looks awesome. I'd be raiding your tank if I lived near you. :D

    new to this world.....

Hello and welcome! First, I suggest you take a long hard look at the articles here on living reefs. Second, yes... definitely do a water change! Nitrate levels of 10 is not too bad, but you shouldn't have ANY ammonia if your tank completed the cycle. A tank with a completed cycle should...

Corals not opening as much after water change, please advise.

Don't worry about water changes. They are a good thing. The only time it can be bad (when otherwise done correctly) is if you have a bad batch of salt, which is really uncommon.

d2mini's Epic Fantabulous New Reef Build

Thanks Kyle. My coralline growth is crazy too. But i think i'm having a problem with Alk precipitation. You should have seen my gfo reactor this month. I literally had to chisel the damn gfo out of it. I was rock hard and there was a white film completely covering the interior walls. Going to...

d2mini's Epic Fantabulous New Reef Build

Man, i'm currently dumping 4 cups of alk 2-part into my tank per day! And this morning my alk is still below 6.5dkh! Looks like its time to start looking at calcium reactors. This is getting redic. :(

Corals not opening as much after water change, please advise.

I don't think 12g would have made much of a difference, even though what kyle says is true. We're only talking 15%. Your parameters looks good, but what are you using to test for phosphate? That is a HUGE range and .25 is really high. It should be below .1 and ideally around .03. I'd give it a...

    Sps questions/concerns

Based on that pic id say you are pretty close to 5ppm. Light spectrum will definitely have an effect on your coral colors. Its not the only factor though. I had one or two colors of sps in my tank change just going from the gen 1 radions to the radion pros, pretty sure due to the UV spectrum.

    Sps questions/concerns

My favorite test kit for alk, calc, and mag is the kit from Red Sea Pro that has all three in one. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/red-sea-reef-foundation-pro-multi-test-kit-ca-alk-mg.html

    Sps questions/concerns

Low alk can also have an affect on color. My nitrates are around 4ppm though, and a couple of my higher end sps still turned brownish on me. btw, that's a birdsnest coral up there, not a stag. ;)

    Sps questions/concerns

All trace elements are in your salt. You would never dose anything that is not in your salt. Now whether or not you need to dose will be dependent upon your tank's uptake of each of these elements. Usually a young tank with very few coral will be ok with water changes, but as things start...

    Sps questions/concerns

The one thing I didn't see that you tested for is Alkalinity. Alk is VERY important. Should be between 7-10 dkh. I'd rate Alk as the most important, then calcium right below it. Magnesium changes very slowly and should be kept around 1250. If it drops too low it will inhibit the water's uptake...

Came home tonite to find my basket star had moved from his gorgonian to the australian hammer coral next door. o_O

    LED vs. Fluorescent

Lighting: Your fish don't care. Anemones need strong lighting but it doesn't matter which kind. Coral need low to strong lighting, depending on the coral, but they don't care which kind either. See a pattern here? Metal Halide, and T5 florescent lighting are both proven technologies that will...

    star fish indentification

Yeah, this is one of those species that can possibly become a real pest. I'd probably remove it just to be safe.

    growth on live rock

Definitely sponges and those are awesome! Sponges are one of THE best natural types of filtration you can have in your tank. Very beneficial.

Oh gawd we don't need to see that. But more pics or vids of the tineh tank would be sweet. Especially alabaster. He's a rock star.

d2mini's Epic Fantabulous New Reef Build

Haha yeah they're probably just hungry. :D Most stuff is obtained locally either from our lfs or other hobbyists. All fish. Recently I've gotten some frags online but only from a couple select guys who some local reefers have had really good experiences with. And if there is a few of us...
