    Startup costs for reef tank

2 to 3 for a 36g. Now that's high end stock and equipment. I have 6 to 7 in mine. This is for sump, overflow, lights, skimmer, rocks, fish and high end sps. Now all this is variable and you can find good deals out there. Here's some of them. Join a local club, people come and go all the...

    Having a semi major issue

I had an angel too, it went straight for my trach. He sat back in the qt until I sold him several months later. Most angels aren't reef safe let alone the shear size of most of them. Everyone hear has a 'small' tank per 70% of most fish, tossing 1 larger one in is not as a big deal as 3 large...

    Having a semi major issue

For sake of argument, the yellow tang says minimal of 100g. The clown tang says 250g MINIMUM. I'm sure the 3rd tang is in that category. You even had a foxface. I've seen them in smaller tanks like yours, but they may have 3 other small fish as a clown or goby size. Hey, it's not my tank. I...

    Having a semi major issue

W/c's don't add volume. just because you try and keep the water clean, that has nothing to do with the overstock issues that implies vast mounts of stress. Research the tangs. Look at their requirements. The fish you chose require 3 times the size of your tank. If you look at the title, that...

    Having a semi major issue

1 fish per 10 gallons would get you 5.5 fish. Once again it all depends. The tangs are a no but for the rest of the fish. Skimmers, types of coral, and actual maturity of the tank. Switching fish all the time is asking for disease in you tank and loss of money. Same with overstocking.

    Having a semi major issue

I do not know where you would get the impression about 3 tangs. The only one that will do ok in that system is the yellow tang. 5 small fish in that system is it. That doesn't mean a 'small tang'. The object is to keep the fish for its life, not to continue to return fish one you may like...

    I love FISH

A 120 is 24x24x4. A 90 is 18x18x4. Look into sumps/ refugium. The reason I like the 120 is the room under the tank. When you start adding dosing pumps/ cal. reactor, skimmer, media reactor, room for an actual sump.... those dimensions work. By all means, money is the driver with the...

    Having a semi major issue

You have 3 Tangs in a 55g? You my friend are fricken insane, not including the rest of the of the bioload. I wouldn't brag how many fish you can shove into a system, you are they type I try to prevent. Your lfs sees a sucker walking in and money in their pocket.

    Feed my cycling aquarium?

Please research nitrogen cycle. Ammonia then nitrites and then nitrates. At the end of the cycle, monitor trates and phoshates. Cycle complete.... introduce cuc and then fish.... slowly since you have no buffer capacity for the cycle and introducing to many fish may have a spike in your...

    I love FISH

There is alot to consider. Are you planning reef or fish only? The euro tanks or rimless tanks are pretty sweet. Stay away from acrylic, very time consuming to clean without scratching. Reef ready tanks are the way to go. What type of fish? Tangs and triggers need swimming room. If i...

Adding crabs to a cycling tank?

I wouldn't be to concerned about 'critters.' They will reach your tank one way or another. It's apart of reefing, it's how you respond that will determine if your a lifer. Good luck.

Adding crabs to a cycling tank?

I'd wait. If ammonia is dropping, then nitrites. Then nitrates. 0's across the board. First start the nitrogen cycle before adding anything.

Invert for hair alge please help

I don't understand why you would ask this question. What gets me is I don't know why I'm responding. ..... Why would you put a snowflake in a 10g is besides me let alone anything else in it. You have to much phoshates in your system and should look into doing more w/c's and possibly changing...

Marineland 60 gallon cube plumbing questions

I have 20 ft of head pressure. If you go on reeflo website, they have a calculator for reference. This is why you install valves on the pump (valving down) the flow. Some folks drill 2 return holes for an 'emergency overflow', I recommend installing a cover screen on the overflow to not allow a...
