    Yes, it needs to be calibrated. They don't send the packets with, you have to purchase them separately. That is the normal for apex. If you are using it on the cal. Reactor, you need 2 fluids 1 of 4 ph and 7ph. If you use it in the tank, then you need a 7ph and a 10ph. Hope this helps.

    If you're using it for a cal reactor, it needs to be calibrated at a 4 ph and a 7 ph.

    Look at sundial snails. Those would be bad. There are good snails close looking to them but I really think they are sundials. Natural predator. .. look into non reef safe fish. Wrasse.
