    Green chromis

I know you said you were "just a teenager" but as a teenager you need to learn to take responsibility and listen to what we are telling you. We've repeatedly asked you for your water parameters. We can't begin to give you any answers or advice without such basic information. If your dad has the...

    Dead chocolate chip starfish

Emerald crabs usually won't go after anything that isn't already dead or dying. They are part of the clean up crew. Please take a look at the articles to help you get going on the right track. https://www.livingreefs.com/articles/ Have you or your dad been doing water changes? Don't take this...

    Dead chocolate chip starfish

+1 Kyle. you'll need to provide A LOT more information. Things that you should know. All your water parameters. Did your tank cycle? How do you know? How long has it been set up? Did you read through the articles on this site? This hobby is MUCH different than freshwater and unfortunately those...

Best showcase contest - you could win $50!

Thanks guys!!! :) Ian and Becky, nice job with this whole showcase section idea. It's soooo much easier to get a sense of ones tank without having to go through the entire build thread. I'm excited to see new features added to it!

    Live rock question

These days, there is really no rules. It's up to you aesthetically. You'll see that the recent trend is leaning more towards minimalist style tanks with small islands of rock.

    Kyle's 20 Gallon Long

LOLOLOL….. "hoe depot". :D Yeah, the clear plastic mesh screen from BRS makes a more secure top that blocks less light. But I wouldn't trust the brs screen to hold your light. ;)

    new to this world.....

Sounds like they set you up well, equipment wise! I think one of the articles goes into more detail on the cycle but normally you should see an ammonia spike and then nitrates. The ammonia should settle down first and eventually disappear. Nitrates should come down but may never zero out. My...

    new to this world.....

Ugh. :( The saltwater reef hobby is completely different than freshwater. NO PRIME! No "startup", no other magic potions, no nothing. You really want to go au-natural in this hobby. Or as natural as we can get in a small enclosed environment. Not only do you not want to put in a bunch of...

Anyone have a good way to clean this Jug

+1 on tossing the water. Distilled White Vinegar cleans just about anything in this hobby. And its completely safe for our tanks. I usually start with a 50/50 vinegar water mix. That's usually plenty strong enough. I soak my powerheads, algae clips, probes, pretty much anything.

Need info on good test kits

True, but phosphate is a bitch to get an accurate reading on without the hanna. Its THE ONE checker to get. The rest is all easier to test with normal kits.

Need info on good test kits

Get the Red Sea Pro Reef Foundation kit for all, calc, and mag. Get the Hanna HI 713 low range phosphorous checker for phosphate. The Red Sea Pro Nitrate kit is kinda neat with the color wheel and it can do high or low range.
