ok the tanks you are showing me are great and nice aranged (insight) however the thinking isn't great. First of all in some of them all 3 sides of the tank is stuck with stones. Cleaning the glass is imposible. There is no good flow circuit. A large wide tank which can provide space between glass and rocks should be chosen. I'll never acept something like that! My tank must be alwas mint and it'll be.
There is stuck with rocks, i understand the concept of having a reef but we must keep fishies inight and they need a place where they can swim and run together. I don't like the idea of having an aquarium 95% filled by reef and 5% swimming place.

Any way here is another youtube link where you can see my tank. The debries you're seeing is just oxygen boubles injected by one of the filters as i've set it up to do so.

Why don't you show your tank instead of others?

forgot to mention; in those pictures i can olnly see a low lighting. In some i can't even see the fishies.

Those tanks are what real life coral reefs look like. Reef fish do not usually utilize open space to swim. They stay close to the rocks and dart in and out of rocks. Having a lot of rock in the tank as closely mimics their natural habitat as we can in captivity.

Have you ever been scuba diving on a real coral reef? They are giant rock walls. The fish rarely stray from the wall.

It's perfectly fine to have rock stacked up against one side of the glass. You don't need to clean back there because you don't see back there. And it is always advised to have powerheads moving the water behind the rocks so that there are no dead spots.

I just set my tank up about 2 weeks ago. Right now it only has rocks, fish and a few corals. Before that, I had a 55 gallon for 5 years, and a 240 gallon for 3 years. I no longer have either of those tanks.

You claim that "the thinking isn't great" but you have only been in the hobby for a month and have no idea what "the thinking" is.

My way to be is learning everything from other people experience. So even if my experience is a month or so, i can assure you i have read and (have) a few years of experience now. :D

How can you give up a 240 gallons? :grumble: i WON'T DO IT IF I AM A TRULY HOBBYST (and don't say you have a bigger one now :question:)

and as for a large tank like biffs it is a ton of work to maintain. and you are talking a few hundred dollars just to runs the lights a month so it is very expensive and just think about all the water you have to change every week or every couple weeks at 60 bucks a bucket of salt it gets spendy. new bulbs like biffs 400 just to replace the mh bulbs

Ok i don't see anything except empty aquariums, hence people if you must pay a few hundred dollars to run the lights in a 240 galons fish tank you must change the country!
Like in Canada there isn't such think as paying electricity if you rent a place, everything is included. if you do own a house i've never heard someone to pay more than 40-50$ monthly on electricity.
How many watts you people do have in fish tanks? Isn't better than to just place the aquarium in a sunny place so you can get everything for free? (i know algae problems, but as i can see tanks full of algae anyway, so why not?).
So can someone here please show me a real picture or video of their reefs? Like for real? Not some creatures laying on a rocks in some tupperware products?
i wouldlike to be realy impressed by something cool and clean. Not just happy stories from God Knows where.

last time i checked my tanks are not empty maybe when i set them up and that was only for month on my ten gal but my 75 had things in it the first day.

just my hot water heater is 50 bucks a month to run

yes my tanks really sucks it is by far not the best i could do but with the time and money i have i think it is doing great.

I have a reef tank, not a fish tank, but anyway...3x175w MH + 2x160w VHO = 845w

So can someone here please show me a real picture or video of their reefs? Like for real? Not some creatures laying on a rocks in some tupperware products?

ccCapt has 20 years doing this i have almoast 12 yote has lots of time biff has a few years under her belt not to mention all the others on here that have bneen doing this for a long time but i guess as a colarberated group we know nothing about what we are doing so i guesss we asre all going to waste thousands of dollars of livestock and equipment because it is all going to die.
